Carol under the pipe. The oil carrying pipe is 48 inches in diameter, covered with 12 inches of insulation and an external steel jacket for protection. The six foot diameter assembly is suppouted here on tubular pilings. Each of the pilings is sporting a pair of heat pipes with cooling fins on top to remove the conducted heat of the oil from the pilings in order to prevent melting of the permafrost. The oil is heated and mixed with water to reduce the viscosity and allow pumping through the long pipe.
